Cape Town became the crown jewel of the Bridgerton universe as Netflix hosted a lavish Season 4 premiere event that fused Regency-era fantasy with bold African elegance.
Held on 24 January 2026 at the iconic Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (MOCAA), the event marked one of the first major Bridgerton launches on African soil — and it did not disappoint. The evening transformed the museum into a royal playground, welcoming cast members, local celebrities, fashion tastemakers and media for an immersive AfroCouture Masquerade experience.

A Global Hit, Reimagined Through an African Lens
True to Bridgerton’s reputation for spectacle, Netflix leaned into theatrical opulence while centring African creativity. Guests were encouraged to interpret the AfroCouture theme, resulting in dramatic silhouettes, regal headpieces, metallic accents and richly textured fabrics that blended traditional African design with the show’s signature period glamour.
From sculptural gowns to ornate masks, the red carpet doubled as a fashion showcase — one that celebrated heritage, innovation and unapologetic flair.
Designers Who Defined the Night
Fashion took centre stage, with African designers delivering some of the evening’s most talked-about looks. Bonang Matheba, who hosted the event, stunned in a custom pink creation by Nigerian designer Mariam Afolabi of Mazelle Bridal, setting the tone for the night’s regal glamour.
Former Miss Universe Zozibini Tunzi wore a striking custom design by Georges Malelu, incorporating symbolic elements such as cowrie shells to evoke African royalty. Khanyi Mbau opted for sharp, modern elegance in Patrick Ferguson Designs, while Dineo Langa showcased a bold AfroCouture interpretation by Amkelo Jiyane and Robyn Kater.
South African twin influencers Blue and Brown Mbombo appeared in coordinated looks by Scalo, while Masali Baduza was styled by Amy Zama and Nadia Omar, delivering understated sophistication. Additional standout moments included designs by Xolani Mawande, Thokozile Mgada, Imprint ZA, Zara Fashion Vault, and Zuriel by LuisM, underscoring the depth and diversity of African fashion talent on display.

Stars, Style and South African Pride
Among the international Bridgerton cast in attendance were Masali Baduza, Emma Naomi, and Martins Imhangbe, who arrived in Cape Town fresh from the global premiere in Paris. For Baduza, a South African actress making her mark in Season 4 as Michaela Stirling, the night carried special significance.
Local star power shone just as brightly, with appearances from Bonang Matheba, Zozibini Tunzi, Khanyi Mbau, and other cultural heavyweights underscoring the importance of the moment for South Africa’s creative industries.
More Than a Premiere
The event offered a fully immersive experience. Guests enjoyed live performances, curated food and drink pairings, and interactive masquerade-inspired installations, all designed to blur the line between viewer and the world of the Ton.
The choice of Cape Town was deliberate. By bringing Bridgerton to Africa in such a visible, celebratory way, Netflix spotlighted the continent’s influence on global culture and storytelling, reinforcing the franchise’s ongoing commitment to diversity – both on screen and off.
The Countdown Begins
Bridgerton Season 4 premieres in two parts, with Part 1 launching on 29 January 2026 and Part 2 following on 26 February 2026. If the Cape Town launch is any indication, viewers can expect a season rich in romance, drama and fresh perspectives.
